Member Gardens
Primary tabs
Our monthly meeting highlighted member gardens and was held Tuesday, November 10, 2020 9:30am via ZOOM.
Although this month marked our 5th virtual meeting, this was our club's first opportunity to host our own meeting. (All prior meetings had been offered to us via the local Master Gardener Program.) It felt like we were entering a brave new world, and it was so well received, we're not looking back! Five members sent photos from their gardens, we turned them into a Powerpoint presentation, and each of those members shared their story and got plenty of helpful feedback from other members.
The presentations included:
New Resident Jan Arnold's puzzles as she learns the differences between her California garden and her new one in Anthem
Caroline Alexander's tales of 9 years with figs, pomegranates, peppers and roses in favorite corners of her backyard garden
Linda Barran's story of the blank slate she and her husband Rey inherited with when they purchased their home and how they have transformed it
Linda Gettier's story of how she turned two donated horse troughs into herb and vegetable gardens
Tina Hohnstein's quest to produce 600 tomatoes during her first warm spell in Nevada after half a century in Alaska

Native wildflower seeds from Gail Brandys were delivered with planting instructions. Members were made aware of Soap Aloe and Golden Flowering Opuntia plants that were up for adoption. Officer election ballots were delivered and returned via email, and members were made aware of the last few opportunities to tour the Botanic Gardens this fall.
Members were provided the opportunity to watch a recording of the Master Gardener "Houseplant" presentation at their leisure by clicking this link.
And additional information was provided to members who were interested in purchasing fresh, dried, infused, distilled and preserved herb products from the Master Gardener Herb Boutique.
Finally, our new slate of officers for 2021 were officially elected:
President: Tina Hohnstein
Vice-President: Linda Gettier
Treasurer: Deborah Liou
Secretary: Pam Blatzheim.
