In lieu of a general meeting, our annual field trip will be October 14th to the UNR Extension Botanic Gardens in Las Vegas, where everything from herbs to vegetables and fruit trees to palms is grown to perfection here in the Mojave Desert. Members will pay only $5 for a round-trip coach ride and guided tour by docents. If interested, please email SCAGardenClub20@gmail.com to determine if there is space still available.
Rounding out this year, Master Gardener Gail Brandys will return on November 11 to talk about the benefits of growing Nevada’s native plants and promises to have free seeds to distribute. Finally, by popular demand, an updated reprise of a comprehensive talk with new videos on Nevada’s hummingbirds and their favorite nectar-bearing flowers is scheduled for December 9.
This is an appeal for volunteers to serve as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer for 2025. Current officers will always be available to offer advice and instruction to the new ones as needed, and the house call program will continue with the same experts. Elections must be held at our meeting on November 11, so there is some urgency about preparing a slate of candidates for voting. The closing date of October 28 for applications is fast approaching. An email is being sent to all club members with information on where to apply.
